We Go Tonight, by A.R-G., Fifth grade

We Go Tonight
By A.R-G., Fifth Grade

"We go tonight."
Through the camp run the messengers, under the ghostly moon-light.
"We go tonight."
For liberty's fight,
We go tonight.

'Cross the Delaware they go,
Come to meet the foe.
In the boats they cross the river,
The moon above them a hollow sliver,
The words slowly spread through the dark night,
"We go tonight."
Hiding in the banks of snow,
The officers shout "Forward we go!"
They wave their swords,
And through the night echo the words,
"Attack."
Through the dark the gun-shots crack.

"There is no resistance to the tide of liberty!" they call.
And in the end Trenton falls.
And that simple command,"We go tonight,"
It brought life to Washington's fight.
