11/22/63

A poignant reminder of this date in history from a fifth-grade writer.

Am I The Only One Who Remembers What Today Is?
By A.R.G.

No really. Am I they only one who remembers what today is, Friday, November 22?    As in Friday, November 22, 1963.

A day that changed the world. A day that will haunt  the memories of all the people who lived it. My grandparents remember the time they heard the news. They were gathered around the radio in their house in Munich, Germany, when a voice came out of the speakers. The voice told them that United States President John Fitzgerald Kennedy's life had been taken. Lone perpetrator Lee Harvey Oswald had shot him dead as he drove through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas. The world would, in manys' opinions, never be the same.

Many compared the presidency of JFK to Camelot, the mythical land of King Arthur. Everything was hopeful, young, vital, as was the man who led it. And then, on one day, because of one man, all of it was gone. Fifty years ago today, came the death of King Arthur.
